Friday, December 7, 2012

Well gang we have made it to Friday, the end of the week, and the start of the weekend. I'm sure alot of you out there are excited about the weekend, I know I can't wait to get it started. But before we get there we have to first check out this new Shoofly.

Yeah I know that today's comic was a bit lazy, but every now and then you have to do one that is kind of like that so you can get to work on the other comics. Either way, I love the image of a giant snow butt, infact I love it so much that I am waiting for it to snow so I can make one in my vary own yard.

Just a quick little geek out here. Am I the only one here that is super excited about Hobbit? I liked the LOTR trilogy alright, I mean I am not a huge huge fan like alot of the people out there, but I did enjoy the movies. But for some reason, Hobbit seems to look really good to me. Now I know a few people who are not looking forward to it, in fact one person in particular said they would never see the movie with me, which is fine because I would never watch a cool movie like that with some one who would just bring me down during the movie anyways. But this movie seems like it is going to be alot more fun then the first three. Well that is it for me geeking out today.

Alright gang, that is going to do it for today, I'll see ya all again tomorrow.

Thursday, December 6, 2012

And a good Thursday to you all out there. A wonderful welcome to all the returning people, and a special thank you, for all the new comers. Well let's get right into the reason you are here.... Shoofly.

I forgot to bring up yesterday the introduction of our new character, the love interest as Marty calls him. I brought him in for a couple of reasons, one because I wrote myself into a corner with the giant cockroach. At first I liked the idea of the a giant cockroach, but then I was not too please with the way he turned out, and also thought that I had too many giant animals as it is right now. So I brought in the exterminator to take care of it. Then I thought it would be a cool idea to have Sasha fall for him, which would give me to opportunity to turn this into more then just a joke a day kind of comic strip. I could add a bit more depth with my stories. It is something that I hope everyone will like as much I am I liking the idea.

Alright let us crack open the old mail bag and see what we can find.

Dear DVid,

I like the new look of Shoofly, it has a bit of a
comic book feel to it now. I remember you saying
that you were a comic book fan and that you were
inspired by comic book artists. What are some of your
favorite comics and who are some of your favorite talents?

-Carl

Hey thanks Carl, and by the way you share the same name as one of my favorite under used Simpson characters. I am glad that you took the time to write, and I like that you are feeling the new look to the strip. I love it myself, it gives me alot more freedom with the panels and makes things super simple to draw now. Which is funny to me, that three panel strip was harder to do then a comic book style strip. As far as some of my favorite comics and such, I just finished up Jonathan Hickman's run on Fantastic Four, which I loved. I am also reading, Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batman, Wolverine and the X-Men, The Walking Dead, Invincible, and anything I can find by James Robinson. There are so many writers and artists I am fans of that it is hard to name them all so I will just name a few here. I love the works of Darwyn Cooke, Alan Moore, Todd Nauck, Mike Wieringo, Jeff Smith, James Robinson, Peter David, Mark Waid, Scott McDaniel, Sam Keith, and of course Will Eisner and the king Jack Kirby.

Well folks, that is going to do it for today, thanks again for dropping by and I will see you all back again tomorrow.

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

It is Wednesday, and we are very near to the end of the week. I'm sure alot of you out there are looking forward to the weekend, got all kinds of plans for fun and good times. Me? Well I try to have a little fun here and there, but mostly I also like to work on my art as well. And speaking of my art, I think its time for a new Shoofly, enjoy.

Ok gang I got some news for ya. I am working on some stuff to put up on Cafepress for my little shop. I'm hoping to have it all ready by this weekend so I can share the link and you can buy some Shoofly and Not @ All merchandise for Christmas. I hope that got at least some of you out there excited, the ones that didn't, get on the band wagon.

Well I am going to keep this one short today since I still have alot of work to do on the shop. I'll catch you all back here again tomorrow for more Shoofly.

Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Alright gang, I see that you are all here for another comic, and you are in luck as I have a new Shoofly comic for you all, enjoy.

And now I have a couple of things today for you, one being a fan letter, which we will get to now.

Dear DVid,

What inspires you to create the things that you do?

-Mark

Well Mark, I like the bluntness of you letter, just right to the point. I have stated in the past that I am a comic book fan, so comic really inspired me to want to draw. I also grew up on a steady diet of cartoons, sitcoms, movies, and pro wrestling. I like comic strips a little when I was a kid, but did not really get into them until I got older. To name just a few of the stand outs, I loved the Young Justice comic, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man. All of Joss Whedons TV shows, any comic book related TV show or cartoon, Simpsons, King of the Hill. And that is just to name a few things.

Well as for the other thing, I am giving you a special quick little sketch that I did for you guys.

Before we go, I would just like to point out that I know that the current story going on with Shoofly may not seem like it has a holiday theme, but it does take place during December, so that kind of counts. Ok gang, that's going to do it for today, I'll see you all back here again tomorrow, until then, happy holiday shopping.

Monday, December 3, 2012

It's Monday again my friends and with it brings a brand new Shoofly cartoon for you all to enjoy.

As I write this the rain is pouring down outside, something I as you know I really enjoy. However all the news channels keep telling me that it is going to flood, which would be bad because it would ruin my comic collection. Oh yeah and it would be bad for all the houses it would ruin to.

Well folks, we are two days closer to Christmas, and yet I have done about two percent of my Christmas shopping. I really had hoped that I would have been able to get it all done before the the Christmas rush, but it looks like I will have to go out in the hustle and bustle of the crowds and fight my way to the gifts. Thankfully I have my little haven here on the net where I can come and find the peace I will need to survive shopping.

Well I am going to cut today a little short as I am in a rush to go out and get gifts, as well as finish up the last few strips for the holidays. I would hate to get late again friends. So I will see you all tomorrow.

Sunday, December 2, 2012

Happy Sunday folks, I hope that you all have been enjoying your weekend so far. Today I got a little drawing for you in the spirit of the holidays. I think that it captures a major part of what makes up how we all see the holidays now. Enjoy.

Well now, does that not just about sum it all up. A girl shopping in the mall. Well lets do a quick fan letter then I will let you all go on about your day.

Dear DVid,

So far so good. Shoofly is pretty funny and I am starting
to like the art more and more. Why are you doing
black and white and not color though?

-Dan

Hey Dan, thanks for liking the strip, and thanks for liking the art. It is always nice to hear from people who like my work, it really means alot to an artist, no matter how hard the may try and pretend it does not matter. Having fans is the best part of being an artist or a writer in my opinion. It can make you feel like you are actually doing something important. So I am glad that you, as well as all the others out there, are writing and telling me how you feel. Now as far as the black and white goes, I just liked the way the first one turned out when I did it. Black and white is a little easier to do as well, since I only have to deal with a few colors.

Alright then gang, lets call it a day. Thanks for dropping by gang, hope you all come back again tomorrow.

Saturday, December 1, 2012

Happy Saturday everybody! Boy it has been a little while since I last posted on this day. I know some of you may be confused by the fact that I am here putting up some work on a weekend. Let me just say that this is not a mistake, it is the first day in the schedule. So lets get on with it, here is a new Not @ All cartoon .... enjoy =)

Well? Was it good for you? I sure hope so. Ok so as you can tell by the cartoon up there, it is the first day of December, and just a few weeks from my very second favorite holiday, Christmas. As it should already be known, Halloween is my favorite of the holiday's out there. But coming in at a close second is Christmas. I just like the feeling in the air, the cool chill, the joy and excitement that is on most peoples faces, the wonderful lights, and of course the presents are nice as well. It is one of those things that is hard to explain, and much more fun to experience. So since we are in the midst of the season, I thought I would try and put as much holiday cheer, smiles, and laughs, into this months cartoons as I can.

Alright folks, I am going to call it day here, I thank you all for joining me yet again. Don't forget to check in tomorrow for some more wonderful things. Until then, take care.
